What to Do in a Pet Emergency

If you and your pet are experiencing a veterinary emergency, carefully follow each of these steps:

  • Call Ahead If Possible - During regular business hours call immediately. For after-hour care, contact one of the emergency animal hospitals listed above to inform them that you are on the way.
  • Follow Instructions Provided - When you call to let the emergency pet hospital know you are on your way, they might provide you with instructions to help you apply first aid or to make your cat or dog feel as comfortable as possible. Follow these instructions carefully.
  • Remain Calm - Stay calm and be very careful around your pet. When animals are in pain they sometimes react negatively towards anyone trying to help and might scratch or bite.
  • Bring Your Pet In For Care - Do not put yourself at risk! Safely bring your pet to our Groton veterinary clinic or one of the after-hours emergency vet locations listed above.
