Treating Cat & Dog's Skin Conditions
There are a variety of chronic and inflammatory skin conditions that can affect dogs and cats, but some are more common than others. These include allergies, bacterial infections, fungal infections, chronic scratching, skin parasites, and hair loss.
Our veterinarians can treat a litany of common cat and dog skin conditions to get your companion feeling great again. However, in rare cases where the work of a specialist is required to treat your dog or cat, Companion Animal Hospital will refer you to a Connecticut veterinary specialist. Your regular Groton vet will remain in contact with you and the specialist every step of the way to ensure the highest quality of care for your pet.
What to Expect at Your Pet’s Appointment
Your vet will work with you to determine the cause of your pet's discomfort and will recommend treatment or referral based on their needs.
Examination & Diagnosis
At the beginning of the appointment, your veterinarian will review your pet's history to aid in the diagnosis of their condition. Next, they will use the diagnostic tools at our in-house laboratory to hopefully establish the source of your pet’s skin condition.
Treatment Planning
Once the cause of your pet's skin condition has been determined, we will develop a plan to treat it. Treatment may include prescription medication, shampoo/conditioner, an ear flush, allergy vaccines, or simple changes to your pet’s environment.
